May 2007 Friends of Griffin Wood meeting

As well as the wildflower sowing morning on Sunday (13th May), another date for the diary is the next Friends of Griffin Wood meeting, to be held on Thursday 17th May at 7.30pm at Chester Lane Community Centre, Four Acre Lane, Sutton Manor, WA9 4DE. Newcomers are welcome, come along and find out about this emerging volunteer group and how you can help develop Griffin Wood.

isn't planting trees in rows going to lead to a wood of avenues? maybe the planting pattern should have been more apparently erratic while still keeping the right spacing between trees.
Hi,
Thanks for your comment. All of the planting at Griffin Wood has been carried out in a ‘random’ style, indeed this is one of the conditions attached to the funding for the trees. This is for exactly the reason that you hint at, to make the woodland seem as natural as possible.
The fact that some of the trees in the photo above (which I’m guessing is what you’re referring to in your comment) may appear to be in a row is purely coincidental. Indeed by the very nature of randomness, lines will occasionally crop up.
I hope this answers your query, thanks for your interest in the project.
Regards,
Mike Bray
